FIBA Referee IOT Practice Test

When the toss is deemed too low, the non-active referee should call back the toss. This action is important to maintain fairness and ensure that the game starts correctly. A low toss may result in an unfair advantage for one team if they are able to react to the situation better than their opponent. By calling back the toss, the referee is ensuring that the game begins with an appropriate and standard toss, giving both teams an equal opportunity.

The focus on starting the game under uniformly acceptable conditions is crucial in officiating. It is part of a referee’s responsibility to uphold the rules and the integrity of the match from the very beginning. This corrective measure also aligns with the philosophy of officiating—that the game should be managed in a manner that promotes fair play and competitive balance.

In contrast, simply allowing the play to continue, ignoring the issue, or making a note for future reference does not address the immediate concern and can lead to complications or disputes among players and teams. These alternative actions do not align with the principle of officiating that seeks to ensure fairness and adherence to the rules right from the start.
